Kickstart is a beetleweight combat robot that has competed in various events in the Northeastern United States since September 2017. The design originally began as a 2WD vertical spinner with a custom wound hub motor from a copy machine. The weapon consisted of a machined AR500 disk clamped between two aluminum hubs, and the frame was machined out of a single piece of aluminum. An 1/8" thick titanium wedge guarded the front of the robot, along with 1/2" thick UHMW armor. The design featured a fearsome weapon, but had several vulnerabilities including erratic driving induced by gyroscopic precession, poor acceleration due to drivetrain belt slip, lack of a ground game, and the inability to drive inverted or self right. The robot competed with the intention of delivering a few big hits, but was never competitive. Near the end of its career, the original design experienced several failures related to the hub motor weapon. Some of the notable issues included bolt slip on large hits, bearing seizure, and magnet dislodgement.

It has been heavily modified by the builders to improve its performance and aesthetics. Some of the modifications include:

* A custom-made AR500 wedge and a titanium wedge that can slide under and deflect other bots
* A vertical spinner that can deliver devastating/controlling hits to its enemies
* A carbon fiber sandwiched around a TPU body chassis and uses aluminum standoffs for extra strength and lightness
* TPU and titanium side armor that protects the robot from side attacks
* Custom wheels that are made to be lighter than the SSP wheels but just as good
* A different gearbox ratio from the SSP kit to increase the durability of the robots drive motors
* Drive tensioner that prevent the belts from slipping
* A custom AR600 weapon with titanium and AR500 spares for different situations
* The ability to drive inverted and self-right, but it is usually is too damaged when its flipped to self right. This is because its not very easy to flip me unless I forgot to lock-tight/screw in the weapon mounts. (please remind me)
