Our team has struggled with getting our bots ready in time for competition and ended up grinding out the last week or two beforehand to do way too much work without time to properly fix issues. ⚫ | I found two main issues in the drive in this one. First one, forgot to add motor plates on there, so driving in any meaningful capacity wrenched the motor out of the socket it was meant to sit in and the wire scrunched up against the motor and it couldn't spin. The second issue that came up even during testing was that the belts are imprecisely tensioned and overlap and rub against each other which makes the drive very inconsistent. The answer to this, I think, is to make sure the pulleys on both the wheel and motor side are fully constrained when assembling, so that I can make sure I reliably put the thing together and have the belt tension just work properly every time. I'm pretty sure I'm going to run into durability issues since my drive pods are pretty poorly protected, and that's even before I learn why no one else does a drill weapon, but drive is the most important thing for a bot like this. |

Woodpecker Build Log
March 2023
The bot wasn't ready in time, and had to forfeit its fights in the bracket. Unfortunately, my opponent Free Trial had to forfeit as well so I was advanced to the bracket with a win via forfeit, where I promptly lost by forfeit. Our team has struggled with getting our bots ready in time for competition and ended up grinding out the last week or two beforehand to do way too much work without time to properly fix issues. We've got a new rule going that you can't register your bot unless it has passed our in house safety checklist first, which is going to alleviate issues like this at least somewhat.
May 2023
Turns out its important for control bots to have a good drive system. Who knew!
I found two main issues in the drive in this one.
