NHRL was founded in 2018 by Austin McChord and Ryan Sasloe, with the goal of gathering a large following of fans on the internet.

Our first 2022 event was originally scheduled for February 5, but had to be postponed because of the Omicron outbreak. But we were able to hold our March event, and it was massive! Also had the following new features:

  • A second cage for 12lb and 30lb fights.
  • A third cage for 3lb fights.
  • A new, larger pit area.
  • A new spectator area, with plenty of attractions for fans.
  • An expanded Bot Museum, with all sorts of 250lb bots for fans to meet up close.

May 2022 was our first-ever "New Bots Only" event, in which we allowed only bots who had never fought at NHRL before. It featured our first builders from England to compete in-person, including Saw Loser: 2 Saw 2 Lose, which finished 2nd in the 3lb weight class. Crashfest becomes the first non-spinner to win an NHRL full-combat event.

Once again, we have a record number of bots competing in a one-day event - an absurd 111 bots (tying our all-time high of July 2021, which was a 2-day event), including a mega-sized 85-bot 3lb bracket!

To deal with this huge number of competitors, we unveil our "Steel Arena" and "Titanium Stage." The latter is our Cage 5 and a brand-new Cage 6. 3lb fights happen in both Steel and Titanium simultaneously, with an improved Titanium stream. With this strategy, we finish the event earlier than most other events this year!
