NHRL was founded in 2018 by Austin McChord and Ryan Sasloe, with the goal of gathering a large following of fans on the internet.

2023 brought a massive change: our new tournament format! This gives us a shorter overall event time while still allowing our registration to remain uncapped and ensuring a fun tournament to watch.

We made a tweak to our tournament format from January, updating our Preliminary round into a 2-round Qualifier, in which bots that go 0-2 can be eliminated. We also, once again, had a record number of bots attending overall and in all weight classes, blowing away all previous records!
