Rip & Tear were specifically developed for Norwalk Havoc. The duo utilizes the 3lb weight bonus allowed to multibot entries, therefore increasing the maximum weight to 15lbs instead of 12lbs.
Rip is the smaller bot, without a saw. Rip is driven by CJ Jeremiason (Mrs. Jeremiason). Tear is the larger bot, with the articulated saw. Tear is driven by Casey Jeremiason (Mr. Jeremiason).
ARMOR
Both Rip and Tear are surrounded with ablative armor. The armor is comprised of several inches of polyethylene foam. The goal of the ablative armor is to allow opponents to attack either robot without causing any actual damage to the robots critical components.
WEAPON
The primary weapon of Rip & Tear resides on Tear. Tear has an articulated diamond blade saw. The saw arm is powered with a Propdrive 3536 1800kv motor, powered by a Lumineer 51 amp ESC. The arm motor interfaces with a 256:1 Banebots gear box, which then outputs to a XL sized pulley which drives a pulley attached to the arm. The arm base is 3d printed, the arm is CNC milled out of HDPE (High Density Poly Ethylene).
The saw motor is directly mounted to a 4.5" diamond cutoff wheel. The motor that drives the saw is also a Propdrive 3536 1800kv. The ESC that drives the weapon is a YEP 80 amp ESC. The saw blade was intentionally limited to less than 20,000 RPM's during it's debut, but was shown to spin up to 29,000 RPM's in testing.
DRIVE
Both Rip and Tear's drives are identical. Each robot utilizes two Propdrive 3536 1800kv motors, driven by a Lumineer 51 amp ESC. The motors power a 20:1 Banesbot gearbox that then drives a Banebots Compliant 3" 50A Wheel.
NOVEMBER 2021 EVENT
We placed 2nd during the November 2021 event at NHRL. The recipe to our success at this event is summed up by "luck equals preparation meets opportunity".
DRIVE ISSUES
Rip & Tear were plagued with self-induced drive issues the entire event.
The rear non-drive wheels of Tear did not allow it to turn efficiently most of the day. During the last two fights of the day, the rear wheels were removed, allowing it to turn more efficiently.
The larger drive issue of the day was the controller mixing. Both robots suffered from improperly setup controller mixing. The throttle and steering were mix improperly which made the bots difficult to control.
