Beetleweight Ratfish made it's debut in 2021 as a scaled up version of the highly successful antweight of the same name. Scaling up proved to be a challenge, however, as the bot went a combined 2-8 in its first four events in Norwalk, North Carolina, and Tennessee. A complete re-think was in order, and the bot was re-designed from the ground up. Nothing was retained, save those elements which defined the bot as Ratfish (ridiculously large, chonky, ablative wheels, flipper as the main weapon) and those that had proven successful (the high power servo). The fork set-up was modeled after Robert Rund's highly successful Crashfest. The new design made its debut at the MAY 2023 NHRL, and immediately performed exactly as designed. Although it only went 2-2, suffering from ESC failures in its two losses, it was able to consistently maintain control throughout much of its matches. This was followed up with a 2nd place showing in the June 2023 Clash of the Bots, and then another 2nd place with an amazing run at the August 2023 Norwalk Havoc, losing to Supreme Ruler in the finals at the first ever all control bot final in NHRL history. |
