The Throngler
Robot Facts
The Throngler is a thagomizer-style horizontal spinner 3lb robot. The Throngler has been competing in the MRCA since early 2024, and was originally developed at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology before following me to WPI where I am pursuing my Master's. The robot is currently in version 3.0, last upgraded for March 2025 NHRL.

Originally, The Throngler was a plastic antweight in the first RHIT plastic antweight competition, where it succeeded as being a proof of concept. The goal of the robot is to be extremely versatile, having an answer to every opponent it faces. It is essentially the classic sword and shield fighter in a video game. The horizontal spinner is one of the hardest weapons to defend against, usually requiring a wedge, which limits my opponent's ground game and makes them susceptible to my forks. Whenever possible, I also have the option to run a large wedge which effectively nullifies the weapons of any opponent without ground game.
Version 3.0 fixed several issues with the robot, including increasing the knockout power of the weapon, as well as making the robot vertically shorter and laterally longer to allow for the addition of a thagomizer-style driving strategy.
